The TOS have been changed to allow a general rating of PG-13 material/discussion on this site due to popular request, since the minimum age to sign up is 13. If this measure turns out to be counter-productive for any reason, it will be set back to "G rating".

All active players (logged in within the last 7 days) will have access to the yearly holiday special that lets one of their pets receive an extra BP boost. Only this time it's not 5, but 10 BP that you can get! This will remain available until January 12th. Happy Holidays!

Big update!
The SAP (sell-as-pet) feature has been implemented, which means they basically go to an invisible new home and show up as retired. Since Small Critters has no system for breeds, all pets will be sold at $50. On the up side, the requirements for selling aren't as strict as they are on PF.
Basic players now have a limit of 30 pets per account.
Pets from the store now have BP between 25 and 30. However, the price will stay the same for now. It is so high mainly to discourage players from buying store pets, and to encourage buying from breeders or the shelter.
When hosting a show, the info you entered won't immediately vanish. You can also enter your own BP limit now, instead of picking from the list. This is somewhat experimental, so if it doesn't work out in the long run, it might be turned back to the old way. When you enter a max BP while searching for shows, it will display all the shows with that BP or 10 less. That seemed the most logical way of doing that, as it would be very limited if it only displays that particular BP. The limit to create shows has been increased to 10.
Forum security has been improved. In forums and private messages, there is now a function preventing you from posting or sending something more than once a minute. This is mostly to prevent accidental double-posts, but also to prevent flooding by spammers.
You can also link your accounts now, for easy transferral of pets and money. Please keep in mind that you are NOT allowed to link your account to somebody else's.
On the experts page, Star players can now enter the amount of expert licenses they want to purchase.
Everything has been tested thoroughly, but it is possible that some bugs may still appear, anyway. Please report them using the contact form.

There is now a list of all Moderators in the game on the help page. Mod names will also be displayed in bold/italic font in the forum to make them easily recognizeable.

Like on PF, iframes will no longer be allowed on player homepages in the future due to security concerns. While they do give very nice layout options and the majority of players don't use them for anything else, they can also provide an easy way to manipulate certain things which I won't get into here. Since we all want SC to be a safe place to play, the only way to prevent this is to not use iframes at all. The iframes tag will be removed from the allowed HTML in two weeks (May 19), in order to give everyone the chance to redesign their current layout if they have used iframes.
